The SOBER story
SOBER is an Indian brand of non-alcoholic spirits whose founder is Vansh Pahuja. The brand says it was created because drinkers had few options beyond sodas and mocktails, and it describes its spirits as distilled from herbs and botanicals.
A 2024 profile by Homegrown places the brand's start in the pandemic years, when many Indian drinkers cut back. The founder has said the spirits recreate the taste of gin, whiskey and rum from the flavours of their base ingredients, and use ingredients such as juniper berries, ashwagandha and tulsi in place of alcohol.
The range covers gin, pink gin, whiskey and rum alternatives meant as a base for zero-proof cocktails, along with canned cocktails, flavoured waters and non-alcoholic wines. SOBER sells through its own website, ships across India and says it is also served at some bars and hotels.
